Drake becomes a refugee, 17 July 2015
John Drake's Mission: Discover what is happening to refugees from an unnamed, unfriendly Asian country. The refugees seem to be disappearing in route to freedom.
I'm going to rate The Journey Ends Halfway a dreaded, wishy-washy 5/10. To me, it's no better than average. While parts of the episode worked, other parts didn't.
What worked:
- A couple of the actors gave performances that really stood out. I really enjoyed seeing Burt Kwouk as Tai and Anna May Wong as Miss Lee. As a plus, it was nice to see actual Asians play such important roles.
- The scene where Drake and Miss Lee make their escape from the hotel was very well done. It's about as entertaining a scene as you'll find in any Danger Man episode.
What didn't work:
- The ending is horribly predictable. From the moment the doctor appeared on screen, it was too easy to see where The Journey Ends Halfway was headed.
- What's up with Drake's accent? Is he supposed to be speaking in some Asian language? It sounded more like a speech impediment to me.
